Our trip to motat

On Friday the 2nd of June the Year 5's and 6's went to Motat. It was a long and annoying journey because many people were singing songs. When we arrived we were told the rules. The part was to finally open our lunch box and eat our morning tea. After that we headed down to the classroom. At the classroom we were looking at levers, pulley, wheels and gears.
When we finished that we picked up some objects and we were told to find out what simple machine they were. We then needed to make model pulleys with some K-nex and some string and a ping pong ball. The people in my group were Micheal, Steven, Daniel and Callum. We made a truck with a crane. In the end groups model was the best.

The next thing we did was go see a man named Mike. He was in charge of the pump house. While we were in the pump house we had to do a challenge. There were many machines in the pump house there was also a boiler to. After that we went to next door. Next door was created to pump fresh clean drinking water from Western Springs. The water that was being pumped at the pump house was sent to Auckland city.

Painting Drains Report

Hi, I'm Jessica and I'm doing a report on BBPS's painted drains. Add Image It all started on the Friday 11th June and (my buddy reader) Milla from Room 5 wanted to make the drains attractive and colourful. So Mrs. Horn, a couple of Year 2s from Room 5; Hannah, Mahin, Nicholas and of course, Milla; and Zoe and I from Room 1 started to talk about what we wanted to draw and with what colours. I went to the Room 4's drain with Hannah and Milla with some chalk to draw with while Zoe stayed at the Room 5's drain with the boys.

Soon, ideas started to bubble up and explode everywhere as there were lots of drawings. After a while, we had two lovely, colourful drains. We did 3 more drains on Friday 18th June. Teal and I painted a 3D hole around the old, metal circle at Room 4. Madeline, Brianna and Emma painted Room 2's drain with sea creatures and a group of Room 2 students did the drain beside the hall with a scene of Rangitoto Island. Our school will look more wonderful when we finish all the drains!

Watch this space for more reports and beautification!

BOOK CHARACTER PARADE

On Friday 18 of June the students of Bucklands Beach Primary School had a book parade. The event was at 9:00am. There were many people characters from books. The person I was was Fred from the clever Gribbles. This book was written by Joy Cowley. I particularly enjoyed this book because it was very funny.

I looked like a boy with a shirt and a shorts. I like skateboarding. I have a cook named Mrs Munch. I have to sisters too. Me and my sisters are inventors.

This is the final book in the series. I would recommend you reading them from first to last. This is a good book for all ages.

My favourite part is when his sisters give him an upgraded version of his skateboard and smashes into a bus stand and a police car!

I hope you enjoy reading this book if you are going to read this book.

Mira as Nancy Drew

For the book character parade I dressed up as Nancy Drew from the book Nancy Drew the Secret of the lost pavilion by Carolyn Keen. I would recommend this book to 9-12 year olds because it is quite a challenging book to read over all I rated the book a 8/10.

The Great BBPS Book Character Parade

On Friday 18th of June the whole school piled into the school hall dressed in costumes of their favorite book character. Fleur was dressed as Fly Guy and Jessica was dressed as Sara the maid. Room 1 was the most stylish and creative class by far. There were lots of strange book characters like 3 talking toilets, a giant cyber turkey and a boy dressed as a princess with a large pea.

The Rangitoto girl whanau leaders did a great job by telling the junior classes when to stand and sit.

Every teacher had to choose a boy and a girl to stand forward and say who they were and which book they came from. The teachers also dressed up as well!

This year's book character parade was FANTASTIC! But it was the last year for the Year 6's to do this so they had to put in all their effort.

The Book Parade

The Book Parade
The book parade was a very successful with a wide range of charters including a cyber Turkey and some talking toilets. Many people thought it was very amusing and a creative festival Michael was called the artful dodgier . Harry was the boy called Greg from the book called the diary of a wimpy kid. Next time we have a book parade I think it flow a bit faster.

The brilliant book character parade by Grace and Teal

On June the 18 BBPS had a book character parade in celebration of book week for this occasion BBPS students were allowed to dress as there favourite book character. There were all sorts of costumes from mice to toilets super heros and cats, they all looked wonderful and so colorful and the show took a while but i don't think anybody cared because it was a spectacular sight some boys even dressed like girls! Over all I think that the book character was very successful and AWESOME. In fact I'm still wearing my Minnie Mouse costume.

Book Parade 2010 By Madeleine,Sarah and Abby.

On Friday 18th June 2010 Bucklands Beach Primary School held a book parade celebrating books! Everybody's costumes were AMAZING! It went in order from Middle school, Junior school and then last the Senior school.

People wore fabulous costumes! There were cats, witches, vampires, pirates and all the things you can think of! Teachers asked a couple of people what they dressed up as. Some people took longer then others to make there costumes because of how much detail was put into the costumes. This terrific event was held in the school hall. Everyone thought really hard about there costumes, and one boy from Room 1 even dressed up as a girl!! Today was a fantastic day for everyone who participated in this event.

I dressed up as a Vampire, Abby was a Vampire too and Sarah was a Cat. We all looked fantastic and had a great time!

Emma as Pinky Pick

For the book character parade I was Pinky Pick from the book My Name Is Stilton, Geronimo Stilton. Written by Geronimo Stilton. I would recommend this book to children under 12 because it is really easy to read and it has lots of pictures. I would give the book 4 out of 5 stars.

Our Book Character Parade

On Friday 18th of June, the whole school gathered into our school hall to start our fabulous and fun Book Character Parade. It all started when we had our Scholastic Book Fair, then Sharlene Bodle came to our school and read her books to us. Everyone had LOTS of fun! It was AMAZING!

Children dressed up as Tinkerbell, Indiana Jones, Batman, Minnie Mouse and cats. Stephen, from Room 1, even dressed up as The Princess and The Pea! The Rangitoto whanau leaders instructed the students of when to stand up and sit down. First, the mesmerizing middle school came up on stage, then the juvenile juniors, lastly, came the stylish seniors.

Sarah Millar, from Room 1 dressed up as Slinky Malinki from the book Slinky Malinki, written by Lynley Dodd. Shan Lan, also from Room 1, dressed up as Lucy Jessica Hartley from the book Planet Fashion, written by Kelly McKain.

My BOOK CHARACTER

On Friday 18th June BBPS had an exciting magnificent book character parade and as it is my last year at BBPS I went as THE CAT IN THE HAT by Dr Seuss. The main characters in the story are the cat, mom, Quinn, sally and Conrad. I chose this character because he looks and is a funny character who is appealing to all readers. We had fun!

IT WAS AWESOME!

The TREEmendous Makeover

Early Saturday morning, 24th of April, in amidst all the excitement, stood 6 girls - Ashleigh, Naomi, Katherine, Sarah, Shan and Jessica. They were waiting for the makeover to start... but it seemed like the wait took eternity. Finally, after a lot of impatience, a woman wearing a lime green shirt announcing, ' Treemendous Makeover' asked for silence. 'Welcome!' she exclaimed to everyone. She talked about her business and how the makeover would start. A man, Koro Percy, stepped out and started singing a Maori song, followed by a prayer. Mrs Riach, a teacher, stepped out to thank everyone for coming and introduced the girls. They received red caps saying 'PROJECT DESIGNERS'.

After some photos and an interview, they were asked to go to the vegetable gardens to help shovel the compost down. The gardens needed heaps of compost because the boxes were HUGE. Four designers went to stomp out the soil whilst Ashleigh and Naomi went off to pile up some mulch. After a while, Jessica joined them with a spade. Meanwhile, the other three rolled some tyres for the potatoes to grow in to the vege gardens. Naomi and Ashleigh joined in. The tyres were really dirty because of the recent rain. Later, Jessica, Naomi and Ashleigh was asked to build a compost bin as it was donated to the school.

Shan, Sarah and Katherine decided to show some kids the worm farm-a wooden box full of 12 thousand worms, half tiger, the other blue worms. No, the tiger worms did certainly not look like tigers! The other three went back to the vege gardens to help out. Wow! The boxes were almost full! Mrs Riach asked all of the girls to make another compost bin in front of some little kids. Most kids wandered off, but in the end the bin was finished. A crowd of kids followed Rob, well, most people called him 'The Bug Man'. He showed them how to make little bamboo hotels for the nocturnal critters. Everyone else decided to join in as well. In the end, we made about 10-15 bamboo hotels. They looked so cute among the forest of trees.

Then it was time to go back to the vege gardens and we were just in time for planting the seedlings. They planted broccoli, lettuce, broad beans, Shang hai cabbages, bok choi and peas. Straight afterwards, everyone got called for a photo the 6 girls right up the front with the other children, Mrs Riach in between the girls and every other adult was right at the back, behind them. After the photo, Jessica, sadly left. Then the other 5 girls went back to continue digging holes for the seedlings. 3 girls were asked if they could have a interview with a young lady called Rose. They politely agreed. The interviewer asked questions like how did this all start off and how many people were in the entire making of the project.

When a woman named Sarah-Jane announced it was time for lunch, everyone came rushing like this was their first meal in ages! For lunch, they all had a delicious sausage sizzle and some workers and adults even had seconds! After lunch, everyone went back to work on the project some shovelling mulch, others laying down grass and the leftover people went to plant more beans and peas. At around 1 o clock, the vege gardens were finished. The adults that were planting seedlings went to help clean the deck or spread the mulch around.

It was a fantastic day and everyone worked hard. The gardens look beautiful and we hope it'll stay with the school for a long time.

THE END!

The Spectacular Sausage Sizzle!

Bucklands Beach Primary School had a awesome and a REAL YUMMY lunch on Tuesday the 30th March, as the PTA needed some money to help protect Project Crimson's veggie garden fences. Lots of students contributed their precious $1.50 to help the Enviro Group.

It was a success, because the adults that participated were making friends, and everyone loved the softness of the bread, the crispy sausage and a generous amount of tomato sauce. Wow, we all made loads of money for the fence, had a full belly and had tons of fun! Mrs. Manak was brilliant and we might have another sausage sizzle!
It might not be a optional diet, but it's for a good cause!

Room 3's Sand Art

Room 3 watched a wonderful clip about sand art. It is a medium we had not tried before and were very enthusiastic to see what it would be like to create some sea week art through the sand medium in the classroom.
Here is the clip we watched to inspire us, then have a look at some of the art we created.
