A Reward of Pikelets!

As a reward for a term of solid learning, hard work and pleasing results, the students in Room 2 spent a maths lesson measuring and cooking pikelets. It was an activity enjoyed by all.

Room 2 and 3 study boat design.

Both year six classes have finished the term by studying boat design. At The Auckland Maritime Museum we looked at how technology has aided boat design over the generations. We saw outriggers, sailboats, steamboats and a display showing the latest in New Zealand customs vessel design.
Our Float-that-Boat competition was a great way to finish the term. Sixty students made boats for home learning and each was then entered in one of two categories - either the glitz and glamour category or the sporty and aerodynamic category. A class of year 2 students were invited to watch, and they were so inspired they went back to class and wrote about what they had seen.!

Rooms 2 and 3 on Year 6 Camp.

All the Year 6 students have had a fabulous first term. It has involved a four day camp at Shakespear Regional Park, a trip to The Auckland Maritime Museum and a Float-that-Boat competition.
Shakespear Lodge is approximately an hour and a half North of Auckland, at the end of Whangaparaoa peninsula. It is a beautiful location and the students all participated in archery, mountain boarding, bush cooking, beach studies, rock climbing and abseiling, night games, team building activities and a raft of other opportunities.

Room 4 and Room 5 visit Goat Island.

On the 3rd of April Room 4 and Room 5 set off in the wee hours of the morning to travel up to Goat Island. They stopped off on the way for a yummy breakfast at Burger King in Albany then continued on their way, finally arriving at Goat Island. They had a wonderful day- snorkeling in the crystal clear water, doing a rocky shore study and visiting Seafriends where Dr Floor Anthoni talked to them about the creatures found around the Marine Reserve. They also were able to see the aquariums at Seafriends. There were some tired students on the bus going home!
